This guide covers the walk around Nakijin Castle Ruins, admission and parking, the Nakijin Village History and Culture Center, and the routes to the ruins.
At Nakijin Castle Ruins you can walk along curving stone walls on a green ridge and look out over the sea and the reef beyond. The visit inside the ruins is on foot only, so plan for a walking pace. Parking at the ruins is free of charge, which makes a car a simple choice for the day.
The Nakijin Village History and Culture Center is a separate stop with its own visiting times and a weekly closing day. Admission fees at the ruins have been revised, so use the tables below for the current figures rather than older notes. The routes from Naha Airport, Churaumi Aquarium and Kouri Island are set out in order at the end.
Walking the Walls Above the Sea
Curving stone walls follow a green ridge, with the blue sea and reef beyond.
Viewing inside the castle ruins is done on foot, so give the walk itself the time it needs. The stone walls curve along a green ridge, and from up on the walls the view runs out over the sea and the reef beyond. The table below gives a working figure for the walk inside the ruins.

A long grey limestone wall rises above the rocky ruins of the inner enclosures, with village rooftops behind.
Lower down, a long grey limestone wall stands above the rocky remains of the inner enclosures, and the rooftops of the village show behind it. The Nakijin Village History and Culture Center takes its own slot in the day, so plan it as a separate stop rather than folding it into the walk.

Visiting Times, Admission and Parking

Stone steps lead through the Heiro Gate, a square opening in the thick limestone wall.
The ruins follow a regular timetable outside summer and an extended summer period with a later last entry, so check which applies to your date. Admission fees have been revised, and the current rates differ for adults, students and groups, so the table below is the place to confirm them.
The MR experience is a separate add-on with its own charge and a target age, so decide in advance whether anyone in your group wants it. The car park at the ruins is free, so driving adds nothing to the cost of the day beyond the admission itself.
