This guide covers one day in Himi, Toyama, in practical terms. It sets out the four ways to get from the JR stop to the Himi Banya-gai market, when each part of the market is trading, what lunch costs there, what the museum, gallery, and garden charge and when they admit visitors, and how to order it all.

Getting from Himi Station to the Port

Himi Station is the JR stop for the town, and the last stretch from there to Himi Banya-gai can be covered in four ways: on foot, by the regional bus, by the city loop bus, or by taxi. The listed time for each option is in the table below, so you can match it to the weather and your luggage.

  • The city loop bus fare is one hundred yen for adults and fifty yen for children.

If you walk, follow the route shown for Himi Banya-gai on Google Maps, and allow a little extra beyond the listed time for a pause along the way. If you take the city loop bus instead, it leaves from in front of Himi Station and runs by way of the shopping street on its way to the market.

Himi Banya-gai: Shop and Dining Hours

Himi Banya-gai brings together a fresh-fish and retail section, a food court, a group of dining facilities, and a conveyor-belt sushi facility, and each keeps its own hours. Within each part, hours vary by shop, so the table below gives the range for the facility rather than a promise for any single counter.

  • Lunch at a fish market canteen: the listed average budget is one thousand five hundred to two thousand yen.
  • Lunch at a Himi udon shop: the listed average budget starts from one thousand yen.

The two lunch budgets above give a sense of the range: a fish market canteen sits at the upper end, while a Himi udon shop starts lower. Neither figure is a menu price, only a listed average, so treat them as a planning guide and check the board before you sit down.

Museums and Gardens: Admission and Hours

Elsewhere in the city, Himi has a handful of places with set hours and, for most, a set admission charge: Shiokaze Gallery, Himi Municipal Museum, Himi Aiyama Garden, and Himi Fishing Culture Exchange Center. Each one's charge and admission times are listed next, including the last admission time, which is the figure to plan the afternoon around.

The garden has the earliest last entry of the four, so put it first if it is on your list. The museum, the gallery, and the exchange center each admit visitors until later in the afternoon, which gives you more slack. For directions, search Himi Municipal Museum on Google Maps from wherever you are after lunch. To stay overnight near the port, browse places to stay in Himi.

Planning One Day in Himi

Start the day at Himi Station and head to Himi Banya-gai first, on foot if the weather is kind and by the loop bus if not, and you arrive with the retail side already trading. Spend the late morning around the fresh-fish and retail facilities, then move to the dining facilities or the conveyor-belt sushi once they begin service.

After lunch, pick one of the places in the previous section and give the rest of the afternoon to it, keeping the museum's last admission in mind as the hard stop. The second period of the Himi Sanmai Gozen campaign application runs from October first to November thirtieth, which is worth knowing if your visit lands in that window. If one day is not enough, places to stay in Himi let you pick the route up again the next morning.
